Help Me

My harlequin and Naso has been showing signs of ick for the last 2 weeks. Have not started any treatment to them. Was finally able to put them in a 40g quarantine tank. The harlequin looks like he is doing a lot better. But the Naso now has a cloudy eye and some skin rot near the eye. Is this caused by ick or do I have other issues going on with him. My plan is to treat them with the hyposalinity treatment. Will I need any medications. I tried to get a good picture of the Naso. But my photography skills are of a 3rd grader. Thanks in advance.

Looks like HLLE to me.......good diet (New Life Spectrum pellet) and water params should help when he's back in the main tank. The cloudy eye might be of bacterial origin or I've heard that some fish produce a "film" over the eye to protect it from the "ich". Hopefully someone else will chime in with suggestions for treatment.

I've never used hypo before so can't comment on it's use. Cupramine is the only thing I've used for ich. I do know that you need a refractometer to do hypo......swing arms won't work. Do you have a refractometer?

when my tang was battling ich a long time ago he got the same film over his eye... what looked like "slime" was sloughing off his body... refractometer came just in time and i caught him and got him into QT... hypo saved him :)

do a water change with well mixed/aerated water and start lowering the sal :)

Yes I have a refractometer. Started to lower the salinity in the quarantine tank. Hopefully it is not too late. Both fish seem very active in the quarantine tank.

Hoping things go well for you........you can lower the salinity quickly but you need to take more time in bringing it back up again.......there are several articles out there of which you probably already have read......good luck!!

It kinda looks like ich. If so is the case you might want to try raising the temp and lowering the salinity.

I have heard that copper is not that good for tangs anyway.

If the fish is eating you might want to try using metronidazol as well (seachem sells it). You soak artemia (for at least 1 hr) or some flakes on it (for a few minutes).

I have used metronidazol on my display tank (with corals and inverts) and it has worked great.
