HELP!!...My Dad needs a job..

Hey Guys

I realize this might be offtopic, but it is the only place I figured I'd get a good response from people I know.

My father is 58 and has been out of a job now for a few months. It is at the point where they are considering selling their house here in Cali and moving to Vegas.

I don't want that to happen, I have a kid on the way and a business opening soon...so my Parents have 2 grandkids they would be moving away from not to mention us.

He is an electrical engineer by trade, but has worked at anything from a cell phone company to biotech/pharma equipment services company and anything from a field repair to a manager of over 100 employees.

The main problem he has is his age working against him.

If anyone in So Cal area, and preferrable LA and North up to Santa Barbara areas knows of anything that might suit him, can you please let me know.

Happy Easter to all.....

ghever is a GREAT guy, and from the little I know of his upbringing - I can only imagine that his father is an incredible man as well! Please - anyone who can help them out - come forward! This forum is full of people who know people and this is an investment in family and well worth some effort! Come on you guys! :)

Not sure if this helps, but a client of mine installs Photovoltaic systems and they always need electrical people. They are based out of San Clemente but work all over SoCal (and sometimes out of state). I don't have enough pull to get someone hired but I can atleast point you in th right direction:

www.n-v-t.com

or call them at (949) 218-0235

Hope that helps

Have he tried contacting some of the contract houses? Electrical engineers are in need. They would be temp positions (1-2 years) but he would be making good money in that time. That way the company that hires him won't have to worry about his age. If you want I can send you some contacts that can help find him a job.

thanks reefpeep...I will have him check it out.. I just think its easier to have an "IN" when trying to get into such big company's so hopefully I can find him someone that has an "IN" on a position somewhere that suits my dad's experience.

The days of "in" at Boeing are long over. We're so PC these days that we have to "apply" and "interview" even when we're internal, and we have a list of questions we are asked by at least 2 or more managers who "score" the interview which is then reviewed independently by human resources.

Trust me, he should just apply on line and hope for the best.

thanks reefpeep...i will let him know..

I have the same here at my work as well..but always helps to know someone inside to put in a good word ;)
