Today i saw my jawfish come outs of hole for once, and i noticed i could see his ribs! So i thought to myself this is not good, my favorite fish could be possibly dieing. I care about this fish so much. I've been feeding phytomax, mysis with garlic extreme, flakes, and freeze-dried cyclopeeze. I see him eat but not much only whatever floats by his little makeshift trench he has going. Today i fed flakes mixed with tiny garlic bits and i saw him eat alittle but hes just so darn skinny and i worry for his health. So my question is what do you feed your jawfish? Also side question : Will uneaten garlic bits raise ammonia?

Sincerely keaton

Try sucking it up in a turkey baster and squirting it at his hole. Maybe he'll be able to get more food that way. :)

Thanks for the reply, I've only had him since last thursday and im sure hes still adapting and i do not want to cause any unwanted stress on him. For now i'll leave that idea in mind but won't do that unless needed too. Anyone have a jawfish and have good knowledge of what it takes to keep this fascinating creature alive and healthy?

If you see bones, I would consider that a needing to do thing. If you do it gently and not right in the hole all crazy like, just more target feeding, it's not going to cause any unwanted stress. It should quickly realize that means food.
