HELP!!! My sump is leaking!!!

Yes but make sure it's isopropyl, usually 70 or 91%. The rest is water. Just don't buy denatured alcohol which is ethanol with another solvent added.

why do people that have tanks or sumps that decide to break or leak get on here and ask people what to do?


just curious as to how the stressed human mind behaves...
 
saltz hit it right on the head. cause someone will know exactly what to do...and how ot do it right the first time.

the LFS would prolly jsut sell him a new sump

we say, ahhh crap. then we stress, then we look for help. ;)
out of 100,000+ members, we're bound to find a couple of
people that have gone thru something similar. crazy, huh?

Because RC gives good quick advice, and by consensus one can find the best answer. I would never ask a LFS what to do.

Got my glue today and I've got a 4 day weekend to seal my sump. I'll pm the member named 'acrylic' as he's an expert in this and I'll send him an invitation to this thread.
 
woohoo! a green envelope, my first!

Now I have to do research on pumps and plumbing so watch for this next thread as I'll need advice on this project.
 
I decided to take Lunchbucket's advice and drill first. The hole(s) go near where the skimmer sits if I decide on that skimmer (a css65). I'll get the skimmer and see how everything will fit with the holes and all. Waiting on the money first. I'm a poor student now.
 
It will be some time before I can get to fixing my sump as I tore down my 29 gallon system. I lost my six-line wrasse and put my only other fish--an ocellaris, in my nano. I will write a seperate thread about this disaster story.
But before I say good bye to this thread I have one question: How long can my weld-on #16 tube keep unopened? I need it to keep several months (6-7 months).
 
What kind of drill/bit do I need to use on my sump for a 1/2" bulkhead?

Will a dremel do, or will the acrylic get too hot and melt with a dremel?
 
I found a phone number by looking at some old acrylic candy bins at my mom's health food store. The outfit is called Multifab*SBI Inc. I called them and they said they only do big jobs [acrylic] and not custom work in Spokane, Washington (160 miles away). They gave me a name of a place there also that I might try but I'm waiting on the dremel question first.

After several trys of trying to get on esuweb.com's product's forums, I happened to be successful when I switched to my new email program, google mail. Their product forums gave me enough info to determine that the CSS65 wouldn't fit into my sump. I'm stuck with a prizm, which is ok except it has such a low rate of flow through it.
