Help!!! My tangs got white dots all over.

I really have to laugh. This sounds like a Laural and Hardy comedy. Everyone who has posted in hear has done so with good intentions BUT does this guy listen to anything anyone has said. Personally I think he is pulling everyone's chain OR can't read english and now just read he was told a flowerpot coral is an easy coral by this supposed LFS he goes to. Come on I've been in the hobby for 30 years and have gone to more LFS than I can remember. Of the 7 or so in my area there is not one that would tell a newbee that a flowerpot coral is a good beginner coral. Plus a sailfin tang + others in a 60 gallon tank I just find it hard to believe this person and the situation is for real.

Please be nice! I am just telling you that I was naive and bought a flower pot because the owner told me it was an easy piece of coral. It still lives in my 60gallon tank along with 2 tangs and sweetlip. That is a fact and I can not change it. It sounds like you all want me to either get rid of the fish and give up the hobby because I am not worthy or i am making up story just for fun. That's the vibe that I am getting. Very negative!!!!

I am here to share my story and hopefully some of you can be supportive and point out things that I can do to make my own situation better. I got enough of criticism about how small my fish tank is and how i am not doing it your way. Yes I do speak and read english even if my last name isn't Smith.
I am sure there are other people here that are in the same situation that can appreciate this experience and what I am going through to help out with their own issues.

Numerous people have given you the very best of advice but you have ignored all of it. If this story is true then follow the advicse given and return at least the sailfin tang to the LFS where you purchased it from. This fish if it lives will reach 15 inches in lenght and height and that is cruel to keep an animal such as that in such a small tank. The sweetlips depending on what kind it is if it lives which is not likely either given their difficulty in adapting to domestication could reach 3+ feet in lenght. This fish needs to go back to the LFS as well. I find it difficult at best that a local fish store would sell you all these animals knowing the tank was just set up as this is just wrong and unless they don't plan on being in business very long would know better not to do this. What is the name of the business and what state are you located in? I want to check out this LFS.

My sweetlip is about 4-5 inches from 405 Fish Store. My tangs are about 3-4 inches from Tropical Fish in Westminster. I got my Flower Pot from EyeCandy Aquarium. Honestly, I can't blame them. They got rent to pay. They will never accept any returns, especially when my fishes are sick.

To all:
If my fishes ever get over sized, I will upgrade to a bigger tank in the future. It probably takes them years to grow to that size.

I didn't ignore the advices. I just took the best route for me and it's working (I hope).

I officially gotten tired of this thread and the negative vibe, will leave it alone after this comment. That means no more update on how my fishes are doing and no more telling you all what I am doing so that it won't bug anyone. The benefit of my experiment and lesson learnt will be mine to keep.

Good luck with your endeavor. Since you can't or won't take them back then upgrade to a larger tank now if you really care about them. Imagine yourself being placed in a room 10X10 for the rest of your life-seriously. We should never purchase an animal that we cannot provide adequate housing for based on its mature size. I think what had so many up in arms was that you didn't really seem to be interested in anyone's advice and continued to do things that were not advised so why ask for help here?

So this is your "second time" in the hobby, I don't even want to know what happened on the first try... I love the statement, "probably takes them years to grow to that size." you haven't even checked how long it will take them to get to full size. What if it only took them a year, would you be ready to buy a 300-400 gallon aquarium in a year??? I'm not going to sit here and tell you what everyone else has already told you. What I will do is explain why so many people are getting so ticked off at you. These people LOVE their fish, some of them have spent years in this hobby. Many of us think of our fish as our children and would never want to see any of them suffer or be in pain. Your fish are in pain, they have nasty little monsters eating their flesh. You put them in a tank so small it is like a straight jacket. You don't feed them a proper diet so they are essentially starving. How would you like it if someone came grabbed you out of your home, put you in a closet, covered you in ticks and only fed you garlic covered rice... You would be @*#@ing mad!!! The point is, just take the fish back, you can't keep them in this tank, do whatever it takes even if it means giving them back for free and start over... :mad2::mad2::mad2: If this guy isn't a troll then I don't know one when I see one!!!

I know I said I was done replying to this thread but I just cant keep my mouth shut. I think people need to back off this guy and let him learn the hard way. Let him think his miracle solution will work, and let him post his "positive update" posts. We should all just sit back and let him deal with it; its not our problem. HE DOES NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE, so IMO we should not attempt to help anymore. I also think we shouldn't be as harsh on him only because all it will do is get the thread locked. Let's all play nice now and get a good chuckle out of it. I'm not saying that what he is doing is funny because it's not. The funny part of this thread is his inability to face the facts and do things the right way. It's not cool to let these fish die, but in all reality its HIS fish... There's plenty more in the ocean.

Yet I would like to point out some things to jadendo:

1) YOU DONT LISTEN :)
2) your tank is too small by far
3) the people replying to this thread are only trying to help
4) YOU DONT LISTEN ;)
5) it does not take "years" for fish to grow fast. This is a picture(s) of a tang that I own for 5 months....

Years...? Common man, your way off.

6) NEVER go back to ANY of the stores that are selling you over-sized fish, hard to keep corals, magic medicine, and accept no returns. That's 100% complete nonsense on there part
7) Oh, and YOU DONT LISTEN. :D If you haven't even made an attempt to try the things suggested on this thread. If you did then maybe people wouldn't be as harsh.

End rant and again, Best wishes

The part the is aggrevating me is the poster is telling other people his success story with the reef safe treatment...........Some people have to learn the hard way and don't realize most of us have been there and done that already...

Thanks RBU1 and Turbo. Again I have to question the integrity of the OPs posts as advice was given yet none of it taken. All I saw was his/her comments about what he/she is doing and hopes it is working. We all know the outcome more than likely is the death of these poor fish. Hopefully this is his/her last attempt at keeping these poor animals. I do treat my fish as if they were children as previously put and just have a hard time dealing with individuals who have no regard for their well being. IMO it is animal abuse.

Also, by the way, taking short-cuts in this hobby will usually turn out bad. Also, rushing things also usually turns out bad. Have patience, build your tank slowly, and you will be much happier in the end. Also, do not overstock your tank, saltwater fish need far more space than freshwater. I have a 240 gallon tank and currently have 9 fish in it.

well said, and i agree with everyone else stay away from that fish store, i cant believe they even sold you one fish! I would say a tank needs to cycle for at least a month before you can anything other that a couple inverts...be patient and get those fish outa there.
