I just checked my water and found the salinity to be 1.0235 to 1.024. Not sure how long it's been like this. Have been keeping it at 1.025. It is 10:00 pm here and I have no way to get salt from LFS. If I wait 12 hours to get salt will I have a major issue? Is there any thing I can do now? Once I get salt how fast can I bring it back to 1.025 and is 1.025 good number to hit?

HELP!!!!

Thanks!

Once I get more salt I dont want to just dump some in the sump. Should I mix handfulls at time and and put in sump every hour?

Okay! I guess I can sleep tonight. Would the low salinity cause the Zoo's I have to not to be opening as much?

And again thanks!!!

Really Jim listen to everyone else. That is a minor change that can slowly be addressed. Of course it is best to keep the parameters consistant...but for something like Salinity a small swing is not going to have a major effect.

1.0235!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't help it but I've been there!

I wonder what you are using to check your salinity.
Hydrometer or Refractometer?

If you are using a Hydrometer, more than likely your salinity is not what it says it is.

rickyb,

I have had a Refractometer form day one. when I saw the reading at what it was I checked the calibration and it was good.

Thanks

Glad to hear.

You may find that hobbiests and LFS keep their sality at various levels, this may not be a bad thing as long as the changes are not too sudden or too often. I keep mine at 1.026

I keep mine a 1.029 - 1.030 because I had a hyrdometer and have never taken it back down after I got the refrac.

Pufferpunk Sounds a bit high. Natural seawater is 1.026-7.

Not necessarily true. It depends on the sea, depth, temperature and among other things.
