First of all, hello to everyone and I apologise in advance for such a long post.

I've been reading the forum very excessive. And lately decide to jump onto this hobby.

I am all new to salt water aquirum that why I decide to go with a smaller system. A Fluval Edge nano reef. I know it's more difficult to maintain but wanted to see how I manage it before moving on to a bigger system.

I decided to buy a used setup. So, I don't need to go over the the cycling headache myself.

Here's my setup:

6g Fluval edge tank
AC20 Hob with nothing but spong
50w heater
Korilia nano 240
~6lb of live rock (seems all cured for me, all covered with purple, pink algae)
~2lb of live sand
2x 20w coralife 50/50 pc screw in bulbs

Small frogspawn frag
Small xinia frag
Small red mushroom
Small gree mushrrom
Small Zoanthid colony

Dottyback (~1 inch)

The setup has been doing great for the whole week since I got it. All parameter are good. Everything is close to 0 and PH at about 8.1. Salinity was about 1.021 when I first got it. Through out the first week, I have slowly bring it up to 1.025. Temperature was kept at 80F

Everything has been doing great, the dottyback are active and normal. And, so I decide to add two small clown fist to the tank. Both of them <1inch.

Heres the problem. I tested the water from the lfs, their salinity is at 1.016. Pretty low. I think it would be a problem so I took 2 hours to mixing in water from my tank until I release the fish.

The two clown both breath pretty fast for the first 3 days. The smaller one is gradually getting better/slower on day 4. Both of them has not been eating so far. I fed them with TetraMarine Essential One flake first, then I tried Omega One pellets with garlic. Now on day 5, the bigger one not only breath fast, but also pretty hard. He also begins to swim on the surface and seems like trying to breath on the surface.

I've been doing 10% WC everyday. Today I have done a 30% WC. I have gradually lower my tank salinity to 1.021 now. I have reduce my light to one 20w 50/50 instead of two. And today (day 5), I have turn off the powerhead (the current maybe too much for the fish, hence stressed), lowering the water level so that the HOB can carry some air to the tank (I do not have a water pump/airstone) and lower temperature to 78F

Is there anything else that I can do? I would really appreciate for any help or suggestion

Bad news. The bigger one didn't make it last night. It's sad to let see it go. While the smaller one is still not eating, I'll return it to the LFS today.

At this moment, all I want is to learn from the mistake. I would really appreciate for any suggestion or even criticism.

The only think that I think maybe wrong is
1) using tab water as top up water for the four days?
2) using distilled water in bottle (it claims to be osmosised) for top up and wc?
3) Amonia level at between 0-0.25ppm?
4) 2 hours of acclimation being too short? (sg from 1.016 to 1.025g/ml)?
5) my tank would need times to re-cycle again since it went through a complete rearrangement?

Here's some pic of my live rocks, are they cured yet? If not, would that be the problem?
