Help: Oceanic Reef Ready Sump

I have been trying to find information on the setup and use of the Oceanic Reef Ready Sump, and I am not seeming to have any luck.

Anyone have comments?

Should I use bio-balls in the chamber to the left? Can I still create a fuge in the middle area even though the left and middle are not separated?

....Trying to understand this thing...

Thanks,
Sam

Bio-balls are out of favor with most folks due to their propensity to become "nitrate factories". A pic of the sump or link to one would help in understanding the layout so folks could give you the best advice.

I agree with Lucky. the bioballs are nitrate factories as they trap detritus and such. Rock in the sump is much more beneficial than the balls.

I am a fan of just using filter socks and a fuge. I do not have any rubble or bioballs in my sump at all.

I have a Oceanic Sump. I used base rock rubble within where it was made for bio-balls, I still have a box of bio-balls sitting somewhere...lol... LOTS of feather dusters and such live within.

Do keep in mind, though, that rubble catches detritus just about the same. :) Both would need to be cleaned.

Send us a pic, Sam.

Oh, and sorry I forgot to call you back on my way home!

There is a sock in the left square chamber....no baffle between it and the center....and my return pump is on the right.

I feel more comfortable with rubble and small rock than bio-balls. But honestly, I am not a fan of this sump at all.
