ive read on other forumas that people run thier DKH t 12 for a while an do the 3 days with no lights off.. an the turkey baster till its all gone, after a few weeks..but isent 12 DKH a lil high>?..i just wanted some opinions from my reef club an chime in please..ive been fighting this for a while now..its in one tank but not the other an thier on the sa

i have turned all the lights off for 3 days with no problems at all and it has completely eradicated them. Make sure your skimmer is running really well before you do this, but it does work.

Not sure where scott is to speak up on this, but i know he's tried that one already, that was the first thing i had him do, left the lights off for 3 days and noticed a massive improvment but still there. Since the tank is well stocked with multiple and various frags I didn't have him do it for longer than that.

As he mentioned in the orginal post, he's got the 2 40g breeders sumped together and it's only the one side getting the problem, I know he's running an older 20,000k on the "good" side and a 6500ish k bulb on the "bad" side. Could that make a big difference, color spectrum and all?

this is what im gunna do, get phosphates remover, kill lighting for 3 days an reduce feeding..but i think it the spectrum of the lightning.. an re ajust flow ,ill let ya know.. an if any has a new or used 250 MH bulb i need it..just too run this all the way thru.. thanks..

yes, absolutely.

In fact, when I ran MH i knew when they were overdue for changing cos I would get an lagal bloom.

when you did the 3 days off.....did you have both tanks off, or just one.

that's a 14k? Are you sure? It was horribly yellow for a 14k bulb.

adam i wanna switch it to a 20 k to see if it helps eliviate the problem.. its a 10 k .. i just looked....

ok heres an update..adam the bulb that you brought me at the last meeting has depleated the brown slime..so im thinkin it was the bulb..i cut my lights back to 8 hours a day for 2 weeks there is still a lil bit of it left but i can tell its goin away..thanks adam an paul for your input..how ever im still gunna buy new bulbs both 20 k .. my corals seam to love them.. on both sides..my hairy mushrooms are splittin.. the purple ones..the new colony it expandin , an my candy cains are growin like mad.. an my rics an yumas are really puffin up..i think im gunna stay with the 20k..

Highly recommend new bulbs Scott. That one i brought you is at least 1 year old (used) when I got it. I didn't use it much on my tank but still, probably put another 50 hours on it though.
