Help on stocking my 50 reef tank

Right now, we have 2 clowns, a diamond goby, and a clown goby. I want more fish that are peaceful, reef safe, and have nice color. I would also like to have one fish that is a little bigger, but idk if anything bigger than a clown would be happy in a 50 gal system. Advice?

Can you tell us a little more about your system? What kind of corals do you keep (or want to keep)? What kind of fish do you like?

As a general rule, there are lots of smaller fish you can keep in a tank that size, like wrasses, blennies, dwarf angels, basslets, etc. A lot depends on what you like and what you're planning for the tank.

Right now we have a few mushrooms, zoanthids, branching hammer, cloves, ricordia, a condy anem and a sebae anem. We want to get some lps and sps soon, but we aren't sure what kind yet.

As far as fish go, I just want colorful fish that will swim in the middle of the tank like the clowns do. I really like dwarf angels, but I have heard that they can be aggressive.

If you add the dwarf angel as your last fish you should be okay, lots of great ones to choose from.
A firefish is usually a nice fish for that size tank, it will most likely just hover around in the tank and can add some nice colour

If you're planning on a dwarf angel, you might want to think about what kinds of LPS you intend to put in the tank. My experience is that no angels can really be trusted with fleshy brain-type corals (acanthastrea, lobos, etc.). I've had better luck with the more noxious LPS like torches and frogspawn (which I like better anyway). At least with my crew of five angels (majestic, potters, multibar, and singapore), these corals are totally ignored.

I think one or two cardinals would be cool. I have two orbiculate cardinals and are fine together or like RayL said get a firefish. They are cool also. But do what you want just trying to help.

Get Scott Michael's Reef Fishes book and read it. You'll be in a much better position to stock your tank. THEN ask questions about specific fish. The input above is good but it ends up being very random if you just ask, "what fish should I get?" Empower yourself with knowledge. This board is fabulous but its no substitute for doing real research. Good luck.
