help on Sump design...

The 30g sump I picked up with the 120 this weekend is not designed very well and I would like to design a better sump...the bulkheads are not permanently installed so I can remove them and reuse the 30g tank...or I have a 30g breeder I can use instead...

Any sites I can visit for sump design? or anybody good at it? Should I go bigger on the sump? should I just break down and buy a pre-built sump?

Thanks for any info and idea's...new to the world of sumps...

I've had several sumps on my system, and its now plumbed thru wall so I could get more volume/space. In my opinion go as big as possible, but still have room for other equipment down the road.

Melev has some nice sump info

My tank has dual overflows so I went with something similar to model F. I really like that design more than any other I've tried. Mine is just an AGA tank with some baffles I put in myself. Its a pretty easy project, and will save you some decent $ over buying custom acrylic.

Thanks Scott...the 120g is also a duel overflow model...will go check out the link...

Plumbing through wall is not possible...going down to the basement is though...but would like to keep it all contained in the stand...I don't plan on being in this house for more than a year or so more...just renting until building on family land...wanted to make sure I can handle NE Ohio again after being gone for 24 years! Family would kill me if I built on our land and then sold a year later...

As long as the tank fits in the stand your limiting factor will be your skimmer height. I followed Melev's designs for my sump and it works really good.
