I have a 120g dt with a 40 gallon sump. My calcium 430, mg 1380, alk 9.1, salinity 1.025, ph 8.1, nitrates trace, phos 0.08 or lower (need to retest), themp 78. I have a 65 cree led diy setup over the tank. I have been having problems with a cyano outbreak just on the sand in one corned of the tank. It has slowed and I am slowly winning, minimal algae in the rest of the tank. I run GFO, AC, and have a fuge. I just replaced my skimmer about 10 days ago (but this started before then). I have plenty of flow, my tank is capable of 6200 gph if all pumps are on. I feed a mixture of Phyto feast, oyster feast, and arctic pods 3 - 4 times per week usually. Fish are fed once daily a variety od foods. Fish to my knowledge are not nipping. No sings of AFEW or red bugs. I generally do a 15% water change every 1 to 2 weeks. I did have a few calcium low issues a few weeks ago when a doser pump quit, but that has been corrected.

The acro I lost very quickly was a cali tort frag which I have had about 5 months. Initially, it was a poor grower, but after about 2 months I did get about 5 mm new growth and thought I was in the clear. This is when the coral was about 1/3 of the way from the top of the tank. I did some rearanging and moved the cali slightly higher in the tank, maybe about 3 inches so it was about 1/4 of the way down. This was about 1 months ago. About 2 weeks ago I noticed so tissue necrosis, today is is just bits of left over flesh, almost totally receeded. A hawkins located at the same light level but a few inches over (different flow pattern) is growing great. Most other corals in the tank are thriving: my stylos, birdnest, acans, ponape, red planet and monties have great growth.

Any idea what may have happened here? I can only think of two things.
1. The movement up in the tank of about 2 to 3 inches cuased bleeching then death, which I caught too late.
2. The cali was somewhat in line with one of my return lines, so when I dosed or did water chnges, it was the first coral to get hit with the new water or partially mixed dosing additive. I mention this because the coral would heavily slime when water changes were done.

My only other underperformer is my blue mili. This coral is not deing, but also not happy. It was located about 10 inches away and about 4 inches lower. Not dying, but has poor growth and poor but occasinal polyp extention. I just placed that coral temporarily on the sand bed and started spot feeding to look for improvement.

Any other Ideas?

Just to add the acro died from the leading tip then more or less on the side the faced the light first.

I would say the move up did not help. IMO once a coral settles and starts growing it is best to leave it be. Also sounds like you are feeding quite a bit are you able to export the nutrients you are putting in? You said you need to retest p04 what type of kit are you using. Anything other than a Hanna checker for phosphate is kind of a waste. Even the Hanna is not a 100% indicator of exact levels. Cyano is a sign of phosphates. If you have cyano you have phosphates.

I know when I had a phosphate issue I lost a coral from the tip down. The tip turned white and algae grew on the tip and it was a dead a week later. Hope this helps but I am no SPS guru.
