Hey all.. I have been nursing a very sick open brain back to health and it seems to have recovered a great bit int he last few days.. over 75% of this coral is pure dead skeleton.. (been dead so long it has coraline over it) It started to look really good in my tank upon placing it in a higher light area (at the lfs it was under a single tube no flourecent.) I also have been feeding it a small or half peice of krill to each of its mouth every day or so as it will take them. I noticed a few days ago a perfect hole in the very top of the brain which still happens to be skeleton.
It looks like the size of a whole punch is completely round..
I have also noticed small hair width fingers or clear noddle looking things come out of the dead skeltal portion of the brain..
I thought that it was just lsime form a stressed brain or something but last night I noticed some bleaching so I moved the coral to a darker spot of the tank and when the lights went out I got old red and shined some redness on the coral and saw what lookined like angel hair spegehtti looking worms in and out of the dead skeleton. Are these worms possibly eating dead material or do you think they are killing the brain?
Could I take a chisel and knock the complete dead old coraline covered skeleton off from the atleast sorta living part and the parts that still seem somewhat healthy? (like frag it)
The bottom of the coral is whiteish flesh colored and a coplete circle.. even under the dead skeletal sections.
I realy am not sure what to do.. I got htis from the lfs store knowing it would probly die but I am going to give it my best shot.. up until last night I saw the worms it looked like it wous going to slowly be alright.. I have noticed a worm on it before last night but last ight there was several.. please help..
Could I dip it in something to kill the worms.. could I frag it...
should I just continue feeding it and watching its condition to see if it changes.. HELP
