Help pick me a camera or help with mine

We have a Fuji finepix s5000. We cannot seem to get it to take clear closeup shots in our tank.
Anyone have experience with this camera taking closeup pictures of their tank inhabitants with success or do I need a new camera? If so what are some suggestions as far as a resonably priced great digital camera?
