Help picking out fish for 135g

Hey,

I am going to be setting up a 135g cube style ( 36x36x24) mixed reef, that will have mainly LPS...with a few softies and SPS thrown in. My main goal is to have a lot of colorful fish that will go in the tank..since it will be a show tnak in my new office/ showroom.

I honestly don't know where to start. I have been keeping nano reefs for close to 3 years, so it is a lot different fishwise. I am thinking that one or two "show" fish would work.....along with a small school of something and some other "filler" fish that will add to the diversity of the tank.

Here are some species that I like:

Large angels

Anthias

Chromis

Tangs

Basslets

Clowns

Wrasse

Gobies

What do you guys think about these selections? I know alot about compatablitly of the smaller species..but not about the large angels, tangs, and anthias.

Can you guys help me out? Which ones would be too big?

Thanks,

CJ

Large angels will nip at corals so I'd stay away from them period. Personally I'm a fan of a male crosshatch trigger for a "show" fish. But they aren't cheap, like 300 bucks. Tang wise you could do a lot, Regals are beautiful and would do great in your tank size. Other options are chevrons and purple tangs. If you want angels, the only ones i know of that are reef safe are bellus and wanatabei angels. Again both are very beautiful, yet expensive. Goodluck with your choices.

Here's a fish list for you:

1 - Blue Tang

1 - Kole Tang

Pair - False Percula Clownfish (with an anenome)

1 - Lamark's Angelfish OR Blackspot Angelfish (both are reef-safe and relatively cheap, and reach 7 - 10")

1- Purple Firefish

Trio - Bartlett's Anthias (very hardy for an anthias)

Trio - Chalk Basslet

1 - Yellow Canary Wrasse

1 - Randall's Shrimp Goby (with a pistol shrimp)

1 - Bangaii Cardinalfish

I tried to include all of the fish you requested with different shapes, colors, habits, etc and stayed way past my bedtime time doing it.

I also second the motion to resist any Angels as they are likely to cause problems with your corals.

There are so many nice 'reef-safe' fish out there that you shouldn't stress yourself out with adding an Angel.

I would avoid triggers and angels. I have a Coral Beauty and flame that leaves everything alone. Some large angels can be ok, but that is relative and dependent on the individual not on the group. My Blue face angel loves to eat green star polyps and will even pick at my electric green carpet anemone, but stays away from everything else.

I'm setting up a 125 with my current residents. And I like this mix of fish. .

Nice large tang like a hippo or japonicus
trio of anthias
pair of wrasse, or couple different solo wrasse who keep their colors
mix of GOBIES!! Shrimp gobies, clown gobies, cleaner gobies, get lot's of gobies they are so small and cute!!
Small size angels like dwarf angles or bellus angel
pair of clowns, onxy, tomato, occelaris

And with that size tank a mandarin would be great. If you get a pair I've heard their mating dance at night is something to behold.

A mandarin may work...but I am not going to run a fuge...so the pod population will have to be high.

I like the dwarf angels...but they just aren't a large angel. one of my friends is an Angel expert, so I am going to talk with him.
