Well I think I have a problem with monti eating nudi's. I never thought it was them because I thought they usually left trails in the coral and my problem seems to be STN from the edge or base up on my encrusting monti's. I thought I had a problem with ALK swings or temperature. After losing my superman, sunset, and a couple caps I inspected closer.

Today I noticed my rainbow with an ugly white patch starting on a side and my systems stability problem were corrected a month ago. I finally saw what appeared to be this white fluffy thing about the size of 2 polyps. I think it maybe the nudi's does this sound possible and do they ever cause it to look like tissue recession and not a eaten trail?

Will TMPCC kill these things or how should I treat for them dip wise. I am guessing I'll need several treatments in case of eggs. Please LMK.

Thanks

john

yes sounds like monti eating nudi's to me! john, you need to act fast my reefing pal, i went through the same problem with a couple of fragz that i purchase and they were lunch in about a two to three day span. i tried freshwater dipping mine and they did come off but low and behold my cap frag's died also the next day :O( ive heard people dipping in iodine solution but that it does'nt get them all off and leave's egg's behind, hope this help's and also somebody with the best treatment method to go about ridding these nuisance's from our monti's...

You will have to manually remove them one by one and inspect and scrape off the eggs. Dilligence will pay off. Turn them over and look on the bottom.

So there isn;t a dip procedure for them. The one I was able to grab up with tweezers seemed to just fall apart. Are they dead if you break them in half? I am going to do a TMPCC basically iodine dip on them strong tonight in hopes that it may kill off some of them until I have time to sit inspect and remove. This just sucks as I quarantine and dip all in comming corals. The problem seemed to creep a month after my last monti was added.

The best solution I've seen is scrape the caps completely clean (hopefully they aren't large) and QT them. I can't recall how long before the nudis die but I'm sure someone will chime in.

I did battle with these guys a couple months ago. It was hell. I lost my Montiporah Undata colony that took me for ever to find...

For me, the best method was using a turkey baster and sucking the nudis off. They come out at night so for like 2 weeks I would wait until my lights went out, waited for about an hour and then went in and sucked up the bastards with the baster. I would inspect the colonies really good, underneath and everywhere...

Good luck!

I had a problem with them too. I did manual removal at night with a flashlight along with scrubbing the underside with a toothbrush. I also added a six-line. After about 2 months I am monti nudi free. All my montis are recovering. TMPCC only seems to stun them but in my experience it doesn't kill them.

It is a pain in the arse but they are defeatable
