Ok so about a week ago i picked up a twin spot hogfish from premium..acclimation went great and he was swimming around my tank eating very well for about 3 days.after that i started to notice he was never coming out..and didnt actually see him for 2 days..so on the third day(day six) i moved a rock i figured he was under and he was just sitting under it..wasnt breathing heavily or anything just sitting and i noticed he didnt want to swim much just skim across the bottom.the reason im concerned is i have fed the tank 2 or three times to get him out and he hasnt responded...could it be pregnant or something?just weird behavior and i fear im gonna lose him if he doesn't eat within the next couple days..but he wont come out!any help is appreciated-Drew

Ya, I had one that went missing for a week and only showed back up when I got another one. One ended up dieing. The other one I had for several years until he chased 300.00 worth of other fish out of the tank. He went for a little trip to the LFS. I was sorry to see him go, very personable, just had a bad attitude.

What else is in your tank? Any other wrasses? If hes not breathing heavily, I would not worry to much about it. I remember when mine was bannished to the sump he hid out for several days.

Drew,

You WILL have problems if he get established and thinks its his tank. If you want other fish, you will probably have to take him out. I have had luck putting fish in the refug for several weeks until the new fish get established then putting him back. That worked once with the hogfish, the second time, he was as mean as ever and had to go.

Good luck

Thank you for the advice..I wish you were around when i asked the store and a bunch of other people about these fish when i was told he was a peaceful community fish lol...i will see how he does and i suppose try to deal with this when i add some other fish..which prob wont be for a few months..-Drew
