Greetings,

Last Sunday I bought a clam and put it in my 90 Gal Reef Tank. In my tank I have 1 tomato clown and a mandarin. I also have slugs, snails, hermit crabs and a porcelain crab (I think, I never see it). On Friday, I turned on my light and saw a pile of hermit clams where my clam was. After I picked them off I found not much left of the clam. The only thing I noticed before this day was a hole at the bottom of the clam where the shell comes together but it seemed fine.

Saturday I got another clam. Today, I noticed the same hole. Is this normal? Or am I in for it again?

Thanks,
Stephen

Well, the incurrent syphon is normal.

Here are the big questions: What are your lights? What are your water parameters? What kind of clam?

(By slugs do you mean nudibranchs or sea slugs? If so, get them out of your tank ASAP....they die within 6 months and kill your tank!)

I posted the pic in my gallery. notice the hole on the bottom. Ids that normal? I think it's a maxima? It's redish with blue dots. The pic looks green. I have two lettuce slugs amost others that I don't know the name of. I can't see how thet would kill the tank though. I've already lost 2 a while back. They got eaten by the filter.
