My powder blue tang is just sitting on the bottom of my tank. He usually swims and is very active, anyone ever heard of something like this. I put my hand in thge tank to try to hand feed him (he usually comes eat out of my hand) but he will not eat. I thought he might be hung up, but he just let me grab him and move him to the midle of the tank. Anyone with any advice please, I love this fish.

Oh for the love of God!:eek2: :rolleye1:

Seriously though dude, that fish needs a much bigger tank. 75 gal. minimum, that's cycled. Most people use damsels to cycle. I'd try to get him back to the pet shop asap if you could. Even if they don't refund all your money and then I wouldn't go back there again.

Yes, he made a mistake. No, he's not the first person to do this.... Please take the fish back or find an established tank to get him back on his 'fins". The fish really requires a much larger tank. My advice is to read, read and then read some more. Many of us have made mistakes and there is always someone out there that insists on "spanking them". Take your time and thoroughly reseach your purchases. This is a wonderful (and expensive) hobby and you will find many people here on the forums that are more than willing to give advice. By all means seek it, but do your homework and you'll never regret getting into this hobby.
Best of luck, Bill

The tank is almost two years old...Im not that crazy...he has been in it for six months. He was bought small and has not grown too big yet, he is only 2.5 inches

Oh. You might want to change your profile. I guess after I read the first few posts my imagination started running wild.

You never listed your params. Sometimes they have internal problems that you can't see that will cause them to do that. I'm not an expert on powder blues but I'm sure I read somewhere that they're pretty suseptable to disease. Which is why, even though a lot of people like them, they still tend to avoid them because of the high cost and high risk involved.

There's a lot of books that talk about fish disease. I had a lot of books before I had any fish. It sounds like it really needs a quarantine and some meds quick.

Sorry bout that...changing the water and trying a new seaweed. Thanks for the replies guys and post again if you thing of anything else..anyone know of lateral fin disease??

Have you checked out Oodonium disease (spelling)? About seven years ago,I had a regal tang that once had that disease who was lying on the bottom. Once I gave him medicine he was a new fish. Can't remember the name of the medicine though. I do remember it turned the tank water a tinge of purple. Thought he was a gonner too. Good luck!
