So it all started when my Remora started sounding funny. I pulled it off the tank, looked at it, and realized that it wasn't sending any water through.
So I took it apart, cleaned it, and found that where the water from the pump goes over the top top and down into the first chamber of the skimmer was plugged with goop.
I have owned the skimmer for six or seven years, and I bought it used, so this could be a decade or more of build-up.
So I cleaned out the goop, ran a brush through all the tubing to clean out anything else, and then put the unit back together.
In the process, I dislodged the piece of plastic in the attached picture.
I shoved the plastic piece back in where it came from, and started up the skimmer.
It ran, water came through, bubbles started forming, but it didn't sound 'right'. I let it go a couple days to see if it was just the unit working back to normal levels, or a problem.
It's been a couple weeks, and the unit still doesn't sound right, and is running sub-optimally. Water is going through, bubbles are forming, but there isn't a good 'head' on the bubbles, and the skimmer changes noises every couple seconds like the air/water mixing balance isn't right.
I can point to two possible causes:
1. The plastic piece in the attached didn't go back in exactly the right spot just below the nozzle in the first chamber, or
2. When I pulled out and put back in the set screw, I didn't put it back exactly right.
Anyone with experience with these things that can point me in the right direction?
