I have a kent marine maxima 60 gpd RO/DI filter which I have been using since January on my reef tank and it always had a leak that dripped but it has gotten worse and started to leak more I took it apart and teflon tapped all the screws on it and it still leaks. Is this a bad RO/DI? plus now I turned the water back on to it and there is a lot of water flowing out of the waste line but not much at all coming out of the good water line. Should I replace the cartriges? How often should they be replaced? Any ideas on why it leaks? Maybe its just my fault but it seems like the unit just isnt very good because I have teflon taped everything and tightened it all but no matter what I do it leaks plus now the water isnt even coming out right. Is this a bad unit? should i look into another one or do the cartriges jsut need to be replaced?

Kents are not bad units other than being overpriced and low production rates compared to 75 and 90 GPD units.
Where is it leaking? There are lots of ways to stop leaks depending on where they are. If its housings, a little food grade silicone grease on the o-ring will do the trick and do not overtighten the housings, hand tight only. If its John Guest type speed fittings is it leaking around the threads or where the tubing inserts? If its the threads, a wrap or two of good teflon tape or better yet a little thread joint coumpound rubbed on the threads will do it, again do not overtighten. If its the tubing side, pull the tubing out, make sure it has a good square cut and it is clean and has no obvious scratches or digs in the plastic and re seat it all the way into the fitting. If the tubing is getting old, its cheap so replace it with new for maybe $2 for the whole unit.
Cartridges should always be replaced every 6 months and be sure to disinfect the housings with bleach while you have the cartridges out. Fix all the leaks and make sure you don't have teflon blocking any holes, that will probably solve your low production problem.

it leaks around the cartridge housings and there is a slow drip out a few of the fittings coming out of the first two housings when you close the waste water line it pressurizes it and then the gauge on the membrane goes up and it starts to leak out of the first housing real bad i havent been impressed with the unit the drip that started before got worse so i took it apart to fix it today and teflon tapped it all and its not blocking any holes and now it wont work at all

You should never need to shut off the waste line for any reason. If you want to shut the unit off do so on the incoming line with a ball valve or by using an autoshutoff valve which stops flow when the product or good line builds up pressure either from a bladder or pressure tank being full, a float switch/solenoid telling it to shut off or a float valve being in the up position. None of these restricts the waste line as it shuts off when the autoshutoff kills the product flow.
Do you have higher than normal pressures? Normally housings and fittings are rated at 125 psi but should be kept below 80 psi or so in most situations. Are you sure you have all the lines hooked up correctly? Its very easy to switch things around, I have done it more times than I would like to admit.

I just plugged it with my finger to see what would happen because it was odd that that much water was coming out of the waste line because it never did that before I am going to look at it again later today but I don't know what the problem is.

With your system running, compare the amount of purified water to the amount of waste water produced - you should have about 4 x more waste water than purified water.
