Rich..that is EXACTLY the kind of stuff that should be submitted as "reef news" articles on the site. That would put them right on the home page. It also allows comments, or you could start a thread first, then put a link to the thread in the article.

Any SPECIFIC information would work good as that. Not a general thread, but if somebody finds a good article or link, it's worthy of putting a "news article" up there. We have about 3 submitted right now. You'll have to scroll to the bottom to see them since it's all sorted by date. If enough go by, they eventually fall of the bottom but stay in the archive.
