Help setting up tank

Hi guys,

I've decided to restart my tank after moving around for the last few years.

Tank is a AGA tall 65 gal. I have decided to go with a shallow sand bed this time as I think the deep bed from the last tank caused some issues in the end. My question is this: would you put your rock for the aquascape directly on the glass/few inches of sand at the bottom or would you somehow protect the bottom pane of glass?

Thanks for any advice,

Pete

Most people I know either place the rock directly on the glass or place a piece of lighting diffuser on the glass and then the rock. In all situations, place the rock before the sand to prevent movement and shifting as you add livestock / change flow patterns.

Place rock directly on the glass, and add the sand or crushed coral around the rocks. You want to minimize any possibility that later excavators (gobies, jawfish, etc) move sand around and cause your aquascape to shift and possibly fall.
