hey guys, i received this micro 5 days ago , ther were some damaged polyps but 3/4 of the colony was ok, next day one polyp had like brown jelly on it and start loosing polyps,( like 5 or 6 desintegrating ) so i dip it with lugol and change it to a heavier flow position, it looks just a little bit better but im not sure. is there something else that i can do ? is it ok with the strong flow or not ? i know this is the best place to ask about micros ( doc, jendub, randyO ) best of the best. help me please.

thanks in advance, enrique

Not much. Keep it in good flow, just make sure it wont peal the polyps off. Keep it shaded, and if feeding tenticles come out, feed it.

The left side look real ruff, but the right looks like it might be ok. If it gets brown jelly again, I would frag it up.

thanks buddy, the flow is actually peeling of the bad polyps but i thought that maybe they are falling down because they are in bad shape and wont recuperate but now that you say it i dont know, do you think that i should move it ? thanks again

IMO the best way to save some is too frag it up. I have had this happen with a few colonies and most of the time if I frag soon enough I can save a few polyps. Other then that just as baja stated shade, and decent flow and feed if you get a response

You want to make sure you keep it clean. If you see some die off, suck it off right away. I usually use a turkey baster to suck up the dead flesh. If you blow it off into the water, it can land on other healthy corals and cause further die off.

When I have corals with deeper corallites, I will take the coral out of the tank, and blast it under high pressure tap water to get all the flesh out of the skeleton. I try not to get the fresh water on the healthy flesh, but I'll let a little touch the area adjacent to the dying flesh. The fresh water can help keep the flesh free of pathogens.

It's defiantly stressful for the coral to be blasting it with FW, but I've had good luck with it. It's amazing how much stuff will come out of the skeleton.

On smaller frags I have found that if one of the polyps begins to jelly the others soon follow. I lost a frag colony of Angel Eyes this way overnight about a month ago :( I have begun the practice of cutting away anything that appears unhealthy in an attempt to salvage the surviving polyps...thus far this drastic measure has been the most successful I have found, so the advice to frag this could be very warranted... I also have found that the dip into Lugols followed by a good strong water flow will help to carry away decaying tissues and waste resulting in a better prognosis for the remaining colony. Sorry so late in my response :( I was dismantling a 125 gallon reef all day yesterday for some friends.

thanks a lot guys, its been doing better, is eating a lot, no more jelly but some small polyps vanished, i will keep trying and i will post in like 15 days to see what happens

thanks again
