Help somethings eating my fish!

So I woke up today and noticed that my firefish was not coming out to eat as he usually does. Then I noticed that he was just floating, half eatin infront of a little hole he usually calls home. Now I just had him, and a clown fish. I have a few small inverts, some blue legged hermits, a scarlet hermit and an emerald crab. Oh I did have 2 emeralds, but one has been missing for over a week now. I thought he molted because his empty shell was in the same area that I found my firefish. Now I'm thinking I have something mean living in my tank. The only hitchhiker I found that I knew of was a brittle starfish. Could he have done this? Any help/thoughts would be great. Thanks.

It could be your fish died and the hermits started eating on it maybe ?

I don't think so. He's been doing very well. I've only had him a few weeks, but he had been eating just fine. Was swimming around quite well when I turned off the lights last night. I don't know though.

I am pretty new with all this. My tank has been up since the first of the year. Is it common for a fish to just up and die like that? He seemed healthy and active, eating every day.
