I'm thinking of setting up my 220(72Lx24Wx30H) SW FO, I don't want coral or live rock. I don't want to get into the money of metal halides. I have it planned to have at least a 50gal sump for a wet dry.

How big of a skimmer is required for a FO tank, i'm not planning on having a reef or live rock as stated above. so for you guru's all input is appreciated.

My current plan for stocking is:
1-2 lionfish unsure of species but not the dwarf variety
1 grouper
2-3 triggers

Not all of these fish at once or even ever just throwing ideas out there. I don't plan on having water in this tank until at least feb.
thanks
justin

I would recommend the DAS EX-3 for your tank. You can find out info on it in the Lighting & Filtration forum. The Das skimmers are getting really popular and are in my opinion the best you can buy for the money. You may even be able to use the EX-2, which is what I use for my 180.

For a skimme rI would go with an ASM G2 or G3 or if money is no bject go with a euroreef. As for your stock list just make sure you put the lions in first and get them fattened up and off of live foods befor adding the triggers and make sure the triggers are much smaller than the lion but not to small they will get eaten.Good luck sounds like it will be an awseome tank.

I currently have a 4-5 inch panther grouper a 3 inch violian lion and a 6-7 inch snowflake eel in my 75 gal. I would add the lion(s)first as well. I love mine but hes a pain to feed with the grouper in the tank. My panther grouper is awsome as well hes got a really spunky personality. If you can accomidate a full grown one (20-34 inches(?)) I would suggest one. I was thinking of getting a trigger or two myself but it limits your choice of tank mates even further. But i would suggest at least some kind of hiding place for the fish lace rock or something of the such. It helps out alot with acclimation and overall health of your fish. I'm upgrading to a larger tank +/- 200 gal in acouple months and adding a bamboo shark then possibly larger tang(s)/angel/lion or grouper. My final tank will be a 600+ gal inwall system.
