Here's my temporary setup. I just used whatever spare parts I had left over from before so it doesn't look as nice. I pretty much just followed that article on Carlson surge. Except I didn't need step #10 for it to work.

The black tub is 160 gallons with about 100 gallons of water. The blue surge container is about 20 gallons. The output pipe is 2" and the input is 3/4". The feed pump is a large Hagen powerhead and split in two. One going into the blue surge container and the other into a EuroReef RC250.

The surge happens around every 30 seconds or so.
