This is in my 75 gallon tank. Everything in there was transfed from my smaller 42 gallon. The only thing I have added wad a yellow tang and some more sand.
I went through the normal diatom bloom then a bit of cyano and overnight this. The temp in the tank fluctuated a bit this week (ac went out).
This outbreak was very sudden. 2 days and its attached to the rocks, powerhead, heater, and in the water column too. It is brownish and stringy.
Any ideas and remedies?

It sounds like dinoflagellates. They are pretty common at showing up in are tanks during the spring time.

Ive battled the a couple times
Lights out for 48hr cover tank to make sure no other light can get in tank
You will have to keeo PH up during this time then uncover cut lights back to 4hrs a day then do 24hr light out 2 times a week until gone then slowly start increasing time back to lighting to where you want them

I 2nd the remedy. I had a bulb issue which did the exact same thing. Cleared up a wierd algae that started to bloom.

Thanks a lot. You were right on. It is/was dinos. Did lights out for 2 days and limited photo period for the last few days and things are looking better.
Any idea what caused the out break? Lvls all look good. Could it have been the temp fluctuations?
Thanks

Yes that could be one cause and low PH has been know to cause them as well. It seems to be only in the spring that they show up. Dont feel like your the only one as I just got thru getting rid of them myself and thats the 3rd time Ive got them in 7yrs. Just stay on top of them to make sure they dont come back
