help wit xenia

I just bought some xenia and put in my tank its on my third day and its not doing any thing it shriviled and im really nervous thats its going to die my tanks at 1.024 and the temp is 79 i have a 250 w 20000k blue light and i dont know whats going wrong polyps are alive ?
 
Xenia dont need a lot of light so keep them low with that lighting. Even with that they thrive in some tanks and die in others. I cant keep them alive in my nano but yet they grow like a weed in the 55. I have not seen a trick to keep them alive as my routine is the same on both tanks.

how do u get them to live in the fiftyfive they dont like my tank and i dont know what to do
 
I am very new to saltwater(6 months in) but my xenia I got from my sister seems to be doing great. Its in a 29 Gallon Biocube and is at the very top of my tank. I placed it about 6 inches away from where it is now and it moved/split itself to where it is. My LR is about 5 inches from the top of the water and my xenia moved to the highest spot on the LR and is 5 inches long so it right below the lights. I was given 1 branch of the xenia and now I am counting 4 different branchs. Dont know if this helps any...
 
My Xenia loved being mid-tank dead center under T5HO's in my 29gallon. I had good flow from each side of the tank. Enough for flow, but not enough to fluster the Xenia. I waved around, but not like in a windstorm. It pulsed, was always extended, and LOVED it.

Then.. I got an RBTA. I had to move the Xenia as it was right near where I wanted the anemone to live. Now it is about mid-upper on the left side of the tank, and within long reach of a frogspawn. It doesn't pulse all that much anymore, though it is extended and seems to be content. I wouldn't say 'happy' anymore. Flow also changed. It is in a corner sort of edge on from the left powerhead. It gets light/medium, but less chaotic/opposing flow.

The right formula? I have no idea. Try moving yours to a different spot and see?
 
Did you acclimate it? Maybe bring your salinity up to 1.026, what are you measuring with? The frag was probably used to a lot less light as well, try a bottom corner out of full direct light for a week or 2 with the next one. Make sure to drip acclimate the next one for at least 30 min.
 
thanks dustin that will help alot and i will keep it mid range and boost up my salinity 1.026i will let it drip acclimate i think thats y it died cuz the tank that i got it from was at 1.026 and mine was 1.023 im tryn again today i get them after five
 
While not acclimating could be a cause, I doubt it. If you listened to what B-Willz said above, you would have noticed that he said his xenia does well in his one tank but not the other, and that he doesn't know why. Also, he said that they seem to do well in some tanks and not so in others. Xenia is tricky.

And just because you think it is "melting lol" doesn't mean it is dying. I had a xenia that had two 'trunks' on it, the left trunk started to melt. It did this for over two months. But, the right side has grown over to it and it is coming back to life.

I don't know if the healthy xenia trunk infused something into the left side or if it just took it over, but don't just assume it is dead.
 
my tank is a 60 gallon cube with 250 watts 20000k so this time im going to put one on the bottom of the rock and one in the middle of the rock and see what happens first
 
i just had one stalk melt away on me for the first time. i think the clown fish i just put in were messing with it too much so i transferred the xenia to my other tank in hopes of recovery. 5 days later it was mush but the other one on the same frag disk was still healthy. guess there is a first time for everything. mine look fuller after dosing with seachem plus, aquavitro fuel or some iodine.
 
Xenia can walk

they like HIGH flow and HIGH lighting.

they grow in the direction of flow.

USe carbon at all times with them. high chemical wars going on.
 
Hmmm I beg to differ on some of the points here. As many folks have said, xenia will do well in one tank, and not in the next. In fact I had Xenia in an expansion tank that was tied into my main system, and it hated it. Also Xenia is the "catch all" name for many type of Xenid. However, if the Xenia is already stressed, then you want to move it OUT of the flow to recover.
 
Agree with InsaneClownFish. I would add the xenia also seems to like Iodine supplementation which I'd assume you add to keep inverts happy too:)
