help with a rescue

I was given a browned out ora red planet to try and save. The coral has gotten green on the base color again but most of the piece has receded will it grow back over that piece? I will take pics and post them in a little bit so you can see.

usually there is polyp extension but i just cleaned the tank,

the top section apears to be dead..if that is the case imo it would be better to cut it off the dead section...that would allow it to encrust on a flat surface

so the tissue will not recover the dead area?

yes it will grow back over..i had a stag get knocked over in the sand a while back and it smothered the tip of a branch and killed that tip but has grown back over its old skeleton...

ok, so should I cut the dead parts off or just let it be? It hasn't receded much since i had it.

cut the dead part and mount it side way.
