help with coral

hello everyone I am pretty new to marine tanks and I have had my marine aquarium with one coral and few livestock for around a month now however I need help with identifying the type of coral I have and wether its still alive as it doesn't look as healthy as when I got it.

I'm guessing this is due to the fact I do not have much motion in the tank and probably need to pick up a small wave machine or something.

anyway can anyone take a look and help it would be much appreciated.

I have the same leather. I believe they called it a pineapple leather. Probably because of the bumps it gets on its branches. Yes you need to get a wave maker. It should be 10-20 times your tanks gallons a hour. Jabeao has nice ones on amazon for a really good price. It will also need a good full spectrum light. Mine stayed shrivel up in a big fat ball for a week or 2 and then was good. They will from time to time shed their skin so dont worry about that.

Give it some flow....all tanks usually require a powerhead to 2.. I typically shoot for 30x display volume in water flow provided by powerheads..

And its 100% normal for soft corals to close up for days or even week or more as they will either shed some skin to remove algae,etc.. or to start to "tear" apart as they reproduce by ripping off portions of themselves and dropping little babies..

That coral you have looks totally fine..Its just shriveled up now which is/can be totally normal as i just said.. Many times they will come right out of it bigger/better than before..
