HELP with Cycling new tank

No sugar. Carbon dosing is not for a new tank. Also, it can affect other things so it's more like something you decide to do steady, not just here and there.
Once your ammonia and nitrites are at zero for a few days you can start doing water changes to bring nitrates down.

Hi all
I need an advice. Before i was able to do WC my friend bought 3 green chromis and throw then in while i was at work. One of them stucked in overflow and died (i removed it right away) but ammonia now 0,02 nitriti 0 nitrate 15. Should do a big water change or leave it and see if bacteria can handle it ?

If someone dumped random fish in my tank while I wasn't around I'd kick them in the shins. Then I'd return the fish that were still alive and run the tank empty for 2.5 months to get rid of diseases, all while praying the chromis didn't have uronema since idk if 72 days fallow gets rid of that

Kratosxxl, you're in one of the most difficult but important times in your tank's life right now because if you don't have patience and let it cycle properly then you will likely have all kinds of problems later on. Today is day 10 since you started this thread and you probably still have another couple of weeks at least before your tank is ready to sustain livestock. It's worth it to wait out the cycle!

When I set up my current tank, I used all dry rock and even while adding biospira I still waited for 2 months before I added any livestock. In my opinion, when you first start to see algae/diatoms/cyano/some kind of growth, you know the tank is ready. That usually takes about 1 month.

Once I saw algae, I stopped testing ammonia/nitrites/nitrates/pH, added chaeto to my refugium and did a 50% WC. Now all I do is test Alk/Ca (weekly) and do 10% WC's every 2 weeks. To be fair, I do have an invert only tank, so that is a little easier.

Best of luck!
