I had 3 chromis and 1 carpenters wrasse in my DT for the past 5 months. About a week ago one of the chromis continued to swim in the same spot for a couple of days and stopped eating. I didn't see any markings, eye issues, streaks, etc but it looked like he had a big white poop sticking out of him at one point. He disappeared a day later never to be seen again. I have a mixed reef tank and do water changes and check parameters weekly. Everything has been normal. I have added a lot of frags lately. But all have gone through scrubbing and a 10+ min Bayer dip.
Two days ago I had a second chromis swimming in one spot for a day. Late last night I noticed what looked like brown marks on his body near his tail. This morning I saw red marks mostly on his tail. By the time I set up a hospital tank he was dead and being eaten by my hermit crabs. At a faster pace than I ever would have imagined. Probably 10 more minutes and there would have been no trace of him.
I'm really not confident that I know what this is. But I took a picture yesterday and another this morning that I will post. I would appreciate any help on the identification and treatment. I'm worried that my crabs may be spreading it and I would like to know how to treat my melanurus, carpenters, and the remaining chromis if needed. Thanks.
