Help with Elegance Coral PLEASE.

Elegance corals have always been my favorite. I had one in the mid 90's that lasted me over 5 years until I had to get rid of my tank (divorce etc...). It had tripled its size in that time period.

Now I get back to hobby. After a few months of looking I finally found one in a LFS. Did not here about the Indo vs Aussie stuff till after I got it this weekend. Now im freaking out!!!!!

At the LFS they had 6 to choose from. This one was the most expanded one, but they were all very content and happy.

I brought it home this Saturday. Set it in the lower section of the tank thinking it might like it there better, lower lighting moderate/high flow etc.. (lower left on full tank pic). By saturday afternoon it had started to expand but not to its full capacity. Yesterday afternoon less happy, this afternoon when I got home it looked like you see in pics so i moved it up to less flow more light area in tank. But it does not look happy. Can some of the LPS experts PLEASE chime in !!!!!! I know its only been 2-3 days but.........This is my favorite coral!!!!

Tank specs: 65 Gal, fug/PS, 6 bulb T5 HO, Vortech at approx 30% max (1000gal) on Random Reef setting. Water parameters Temp= 79, SG 1.025, ZERO for Ammon, PHo4, Trite, Trate. Ca= 480, Alk 8 KH.

What else can i do? Does it look bad??

Place it on the bottom and shade it a little to let it get used to the new lighting scheme. Medium flow....therefore no direct flow on it at all.

Had it till today in lowere left of tank. Moderate light moderate/high flow. not many shady areas unfort in my tank. Flow is lower in right that is why i placed there today, but yes, light is higher.

I think Patrick nailed it. This looks like an Indo, so if it's going to have a chance of survival it will need to be protected from that flow and shaded.
Maybe you can tell your LFS what you have learned about Aussie -v- Indo and they will stop buying these Indo Elegance corals.

Good Luck

Thanks elegance, im trying to find a shaded spot with low flow. its not easy.

Im not sure how mixed reef people keep softies, and some lps with the high flow requirements for SPS. Its definately one of the challenges we face i suppose.
