Help with flow for a 60 Cube

Hello,
so Im converting my 60 G cube tank to a NPS reef. [perfecto tank]

will set it up this weekend.

so what are the thoughts with flow ?

I think my options are 2 MP10s. [will this be enough flow ? ]

2 Tunze 6095 [will this be enough flow ? ]

anything else ? I dont want any other larger power heads.

since the tank will be beside my bed, the MP10s will not make me happy, nor my gf ... lol but they are my love ! the flow and the controllability ....

I have a tunze 6095 and controller so can buy another one and use that, but problem with those would be the size inside the tank ....

sooooo Ive been debating this for over a week in my head and wanted to get some Ideas from you guys ..... what are the thoughts ? is one system superior to other when it comes to NPS corals ?

I love the undertow of MPs, but the new 6095 is also prety wide in flow and does have some sort of undertow.

the rock work will be very open, with just one cave I think.

With NPS tanks the flow must be laminar, when we talk about corals deep in the ocean/caves the current is not chaotic as it is not effected by waves. If is is chaotic the corals will not be able to stand up right and if the get the chance to catch food the will not be able to manipulate it right.

looking at my post, I didnt even talk about the type of flow, so not sure what you mean, but either way, this study shows that you are not totally right.

and the most beautiful NPS tank Ive seen ever, same thing on flow :

and I am prety sure you are not correct on flow and feeding as well, as corals use higher flow to eat, but dont wanna dig into it too much for now, if you like I can send you study showing food vs flow :)

so any one with personal experience ? we dont want to mis-lead each other right.

Sorry, I am not to familiar with mp10s and echotech pumps, from my understanding they were high powered wave makers.
All I mean is that when corals that are NPS live in caves and deep ocean water the flow is not as chaotic as shallow water. I do have a lot of experience with azoox corals, I have a very successful aquarium with laminar flow ( not direct though, I have it bouncing of the glass first ).

I have a thread on the nps forum titled "sustaining good plankton levels" were we cover lots of information that is known to be helpful to azoox corals.

not sure, I have seen the video of your tank, looks nice, but not sure if you can call it full NPS with light and photosynthesis corals :)

from the article, it shows that back and forth flow [wave kind] yields the same results. so again not sure.... I have also seen you comment saying how NPS die for you often after some time ? maybe Uhuru has the missing link figured out :)

anyways..thanks

Hang on allmost. I read the article you posted (thanks, btw) and the data clearly shows that laminar flow gave better growth across all coral species. So, I'd suggest you be a bit more careful with your own generalizations. Also, while Uhuru had fantastic success, he also had plenty of nps die away.

Id go with the 2 mp10's and set them up to form a gyre around the tank. Start stocking and then see where you need to augment with in tank powerheads. Its almost guaranteed you'll need to.
