help with GFCI....

i need to get a GFCI installed and i do not have much room to work with because there is only about 6 inches between my sump and outlet. so, with the help of some others in a different thread, i concluded that the best way to install a GFCI was to get a GFCI cord. so i went to home depot and bought one GFCI . i plugged it in and everything was fine but when my 250w MH bulb tried to fire up the GFCI tripped.

any ideas as to why this would happen?

thanks

Its very common for Mh To trip GFCI's.. Alot of people wont even run a GFCI on MH because of this.. If it does it every time you might have a bad ground somewhere.. But it could just be the light. I wouldnt run my pumps and my MH on the same GFCI anway. You would just be asking for trouble. Maybe run the lights on a standard power strip then plug everything else into the GFCI.
