Actually, that does not look like HLLE.

Can you take another pic with him in the tank?

I can't really tell from the angle what I am looking at.

It is ulcerated?

How long has it been there?

(it could even be a parasitic copepode, but like I said I cant really make it out).

How long have you had it?

I tried getting a photo of him in the tank but it's difficult to do as I have him in a plastic box inside the tank. It's tough to shoot through glass as well as the plastic.

I will try again tomorrow.

It appears ulcerated. I had noticed a mark in that spot before, but it looked like a scar or something, i.e., perhaps a cut in the scales that had healed up but with a cosmetic flaw. It didn't look anything like it does now.

He has been in a 90 gallon tank for several months, since I got him. It's tough to get a close up view of him in the 90. I just moved him into a smaller tank (34 gallons) today. I moved him, and then left the room for about 10 minutes. When I moved him, I noticed the mark on his head.

I came back in the room and he was nowhere to be found. At first I thought he jumped out of the tank, as he just disappeared. After about an hour of searching, I finally noticed some dirt coming off some live rock, and he was attempting to burrow himself into a hole in the rock. I have never seen a clownfish do anything like this, so I got him out and put him into the plastic box so I could watch him and so he wouldn't go back into the hole where I would be perhaps unable to get him back out.

He is swimming around slowly but otherwise acting pretty lethargic, definitely not the normal clownfish action.

He's been eating fine in the 90.

The 34 has new saltwater as of last Saturday, and the live rock came from the 90. Temp and salinity were the same in both tanks.

Two other clowns are acting perfectly normal...

looks very similar to what my clown has

looks very similar to what my clown has

Read about hlle, I only have two percula clowns and one is the dominant proly causing the stress on the smaller guy with the HLLE. Should I nurse him in another tank or should I get a third percula?

It is hard to tell from that picture but it is not HLLE. Clownfish burrying is not normal clownfish behavior.
The only thing I can suggest from here is that it is bacterial. If it is viral you can't cure it anyway. It may also heal on it's own but with that behavior I also think there is something else wrong which you also may not be able to cure.
I would use an antibiotic, you probably are limited to the stuff which they sell in a LFS. In my opinion that stuff is worthless but if it is all you could get then try a broad spectrum antibiotic.
If you can get it, use Neomycin 250mg/gal with cloramphenicol sodium succinate 50mg/gal.
Of course these are prescription drugs and you would have to know a pharmacist or Vet.
if you can get them, these two antibiotics will cure any bacterial fish infection
Good luck.

Then you are ahead of the game. You only need a few pills.
Don't forget, antibiotics only kill bacteria. That fish seems to also have other problems and the external bacterial infection may only be a sign of some more serious other problem.
Good luck.
Paul

You only add the antibiotics once and leave the fish in it for four days. If it still has the ulser it is not a bacterial infection and you probably can't cure it.

OK...process underway in a 2 gallon hospital tank. Crossing fingers....

The little guy has plenty of energy, he's just moving weird and sometimes pushing up against the water surface vigorously. I'm guessing he's in a lot of pain.

That is a small tank. Steve is correct there may not be enough oxygen in a tank that small. You need an airstone or very small powerhead.

If only I had moved him into the smaller tank a few days or weeks ago, I would have noticed and started treatment much earlier. There was never a way to see him up close in the big tank.
