For whats it worth, I just went through it and I decided after much research to just let them tough it out. I did lose my powder blue tang but everyone else made it. I didnt treat because of two things (1) I have a mixed reeef with lots of inverts, (2) catching a fish with ICH often adds to the stress. I had about 6 fish that had it and they all looked pretty bad. After about 3 days worth of research on RC I dont think there is a miracle cure in a bottle. Garlic is used just to stimulate feeding if they are not feeding. My fish continued to eat through the process. Most of the effective products out there will wipe out your inverts, and it still no gurantee to cure the ich. For what it worth thats my 2 cents.

Although many have tried, its pretty tough to wipe out a parasitic invert in a reef without effecting livestock. Most reefsafe treatments, boost the fish's slime coat and defenses to prevent the parasite from attaching. However, most do nothing to kill the actual culprits. Therefore, I think they might offer short term relief at best but I am skeptical as to whether they control an infestation. I checked out the link and although they claim it works, I couldn't find much detail on how.

Although I am not a big fan of QT tanks as I think they can add more stress than necessary, once an outbreak is in full force, they are the best option. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Although something clear is ideal, a rubbermaid tub can function well as a QT tank. At that point you can do a freshwater dip to give the fish some relief and then proceed to a hyposaline treatment. Run the tank fallow for 2 weeks and you should have it in check.

I don't think you can ever fully eliminate ich but once you get it under control it seems to abate and go away.

I'm with serpentman On that one. I've got 2 large yellow tanks that got it really bad, what seemed like over night. i was gonna let them tough it out but they started to get thin. I pulled them out did a fresh water dip, and then into a 10 gallon QT tank for some hypo. They started getting better right away.

ich

ich

Ive used the ich medication from nosickfish.com before with success in a 90 gallon reef setup with clams, corals, and inverts with no noticeable affects, just did a 50% water change when I was done with the treatment.

I have some left if youd be interested shoot me a pm.

When my tang got ick i tryed for days to catch the little bugger for a dip and qt before finally giving up. So i had to go with plan B. I slowly raised the tank temp to 86.5 (2deg per 24 hour) held it there for a week the slowly broght it back down that did the trick for me.
