Help with ID for a Crab & a Snail

Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a small red crab and a small snail, both unknown to me.

I was told that the red crab is primarily a reef-safe crab, only eating unwanted algae.

I have no information on this snail, but it does feature a "elephant-type trunk" it seems to feed with, and seems to have an ability to "hop"as a mode of transportation?

If anyone has any insight into the ID of these animals & if they are safe to put in my main display tank, I would appreciate it. :D

Also - any idea how long I should Quarantine them for? Currently, they've both been locked up in my Quarantine tank for a week as of today.

Many thanks in advance,

most standard shaped crabs are carnivores and will kill anything they can catch. I've never seen that particular crab before but it doesn't look remotely reef safe to me.

with those eyes, that snail is some type of Strombus conch,
the 'hopping' is also typical of conch. great herbivores.

They are also called "Fighting Conch" The crab is hella cool though...never seen one that red might be a "Strawberry Crab" if you can find out where it came from that might help.

Thanks RicksReefs & Boomsticks for the conch lead. It does appear that this is indeed a Fighting Conch.

I did find a nice photogallery for crab species, but it only has a small selection, and nothing particuarly matching the color patterns of my so-called "strawberry crab", so I'm wondering if that's what is really is.

If anyone has info to offer on that, I'd appreciate it.
