Help with ID please

I was browsing through my tank tonight when I noticed something odd... the best way to describe it is it looks like a clear straw underneath a ledge on a rock, the bigger type, not the cocktail type. When I looked closely, the end of it kind of closed up. Nothing is sticking out the end of it and nothing "hides" back inside when you go near, so I don't believe it's a worm. I've checked a couple of the ID sites but have come up empty. Anyone have any ideas about this? Friend or foe? How to get rid of it if necessary? I'm leaving tomorrow for a few days so I'd like to take care of it ASAP if I need to. Thanks.

Just curious but have you looked up feather duster to see if it looks like that?If it's not that it still might be in the tube worm family. Can you post a pic? (by the way you'll get better replies on id problems w/pics) :)

there are a few types of algea that grows like that. Some of it is neon green. I really like the stuff. Lets hope thats what it is :p

Well unfortunately I cannot get a pic of it because it will never show up and I don't have a fancy SLR to really get a good shot of it. It is not neon green though, it is definitely clear and really looks like a clear straw. I'm out of town at the moment so more details are a bit hard to for me to get. It is definitely not a feather btw because nothing comes out the end.
