help with millepora

Hi,

I have a millepora colony that is not doing well (polyps not extending). This started about 4 days ago. Day before this started, it was excreting mucous.

Alk's been low on occasions prior, but I've raised it to proper levels now.

tank temp as been 80-85 the past week with fan pointing at the sump. I've got a new fan and pointing it over the main tank 2 days ago and it's drop down to 80-82. I suspect temp may be the culprit.

anyways, question is for those keeping millepora, what are your conditions? do you think this is due to temp or to chem warefare? (i got some zoas, mushrooms, frogspawn)

Other acros (montipora and stag) are doing fine...

how long have you have the colony? did you change or done something difference to your tank before it happened. you have to sit down and back track your action. it's hard to tell from here.

milles are actually pretty aggressive, they killed my pink lemonade...

But I had one die on me when I changed the flow.. nothing else in the tank changed.... It was huge and died within a few days, Of course I have some frags of it, and some edges are still alive.. But changed the flow and thats it...

85 is a little high for sps or anything for that fact. I try to keep mine around 78. Milli's are actually pretty tough sps. Make sure you get some nice lighting on it and put it in a place where the polyps are moving around.

Franky are they really taht sensitive to flow?

I did turn one of my overhead off to reduce the heat in the tank for a day, that might have something to do with it?

The bigger the corals get the more sensitive they seem to be...Probably because the light and flow requirements seem to grow with the coral... Mine was about 18 inches wide.

millis love flow.... mine are all in high flow areas and they cant seem to get enough of it.....

id say either flow or temp is ur prob....

out of all my sps my millis have been the strongest and have done the best

thanks, i'll move power head around to see if I can get a vortex over the colony then, that should be lots of flow.
