Hello, I purchased this acro about a month ago. 3 weeks ago I had a bad Alk spike (up to 30dkh). Im wondering if this is from it or what you may think the problem is. (see picture)

It is in a 24g nano. It used to be on a 150hqi at 14k. This week I put a 250hqi 14k on it. No difference the bleaching? as of yet. Its polps come out the ends of the stalks but I dont know whats happening to it. I was told it is a Purple Bonsai but doesnt look no where near what they do. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks guys.

:sad1:

Crap forgot the picture lol

Parms are currently at lvls we all want in tank. However, I haven't checked mag if this has any relevance.

Alk is 12dkh now, temps usually go from 76-82. I try to keep it as steady as I can but hard in florida with a nano and no chiller. Salinity is 1.026, no No2,No3,Ammonia

I was on monthly water changes but I am going to be doing weekly now. While on monthly I didn't notice to bad of parms however the detritus was bad around rock area. I also moved the rock configuration so this doesn't happen now.

Isn't coral rx dip for dipping for parasites, flatworms and other stuff like that?

Any other opinions on this matter?

A dip will not do anything for that coral, unfortunately it appears to be gone (unless you are very lucky). If your ALK actually went to 30!dkh absolutely that killed it (pH problems, then down to 12dkh in less than a month). And I would be surprised if any other corals survived through that.

rapid tissue n-something, and i know what the dip is supposed to be for but it will stop recession sometimes. the rx seems to work better than the seachem dip.

I can't imagine your alk was at 30dkh but I agree with the already mentioned statement that no coral would probably live through that. How did you have an alk spike that high?

I dont know what spiked it that high. However, I did some water changes to reduce it to about 16 then let it settle back down. I have a clam, ricordia, and some buttons that it didn't kill. However, it did burn up xenia, and another coral i dont know name off. I will get that Rx and dip, i need it for other introductions to tank anyways. I dont want my coral smokeing that wacky worm stuff :p

well by the looks of it, it did survive just severely browned out. i would give it time and just dont mess with it. a dip is only going to stress it out more. i would also have the test checked because if its right you dont want a dkh of 12. nsw is around 7

The test i used, fasTesT, ='d out to be at 30dkh. I know how to do math and use a kit. I don't know how it got there.

I figured this was the major reasoning behind my corals burning. However, I don't really know. I have only been actively been paying attention to corals this year out of my 5 years of salt water adventure. I have gone thru my phase of I can get it and keep it without testing and knowing. Needless to say I have lost my plenty share of Marine Life. :sad2:

if it alive, don't dip it. it will stress it more. leave it alone, let it recover. iv'e had SPS come back in as little as a couple days, to several months. give it time....

I had an alk spike to 20 several weeks ago (my own stupidity...don't ask) I noticed nothing for about 2 weeks. Then the STN stated. The stress was mort than they could handle over time. I lost many acros, but no montes or lps. I think your spike has much to do with your problem. IMHO try to get things stable over time is the best thing. good luck
