Help with my GBTA

Paros

Member
I bought a GBTA 2 days ago from what I could tell it seemed very healthy firmly attached to the the rubble it came on. I set it in my tank it stayed in the spot I set it until lights out then it decided to move. I figured this was ok it was just looking for a good spot to settle in. The next morning it looked like it chose a spot so I moved my trumpet coral and went to work. Later that day I called home to see how it was doing from what my wife said it sounded like it was on the power head closed up so I told her to unplug the power head. When I came home about 20mins later it was on the sand floor part opened so I set it on some rock. It's foot attached almost immediately and stayed there until lights out. It then decided to let go and move again. So this time I covered the power head with a mesh filter bag. This morning I woke up it was laying sideways on the sand so I set it on a rock again and it stayed put all day until tonight with lights out again. Is this normal? Do I keep placing it on a rock when it lying in the sand sideways or not? Water perameters seem great.
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
pH 8.2
Salinity 1.024
Tank is well established. Please I am in need of any suggestions, advice or answeres. Thanks in advance.

it may just be wandering the tank looking for its "perfect spot. bta are notorious for moving all over the tank especially until they find a spot they like. it prob went to the power head cause of lots of flow. each nem is different in the amount of flow it likes but they all need some. some like moderate flow while others like to be blasted right in stream of powerhead. it was smart to cover the powerhead you shouldkeep it covered as long as your keeping anemone. keep an eye on it while its wandering because you don't want it to sting your corals but ime you need to let it find its own spot. just make sure it has plenty of live rock with diffrent amounts of flow and lighting it will find one it likes and stay put. it could wandr for a week until it settles in its very normal. what lights do u have what size tank and maybe a pic would help . is its mouth closed tightly? an open mouth is a bad sign. w more info and picture we can help more good luck until then

Thank you for the reply greg1786. I have a 75 gallon reef with a 6 bulb 54w t5 tek light. its mouth does not seem to be opened as far as I can see. Is it normal for the anemone to only move when lights go out. The first pic is the nem now the second pic is when I firs brought it home

he looks pretty healthy. how long are you running your lights for? there is def. enough light on that tank for a bubble tip no doubt. I run mine for 12 hours every day. can u post a pic without the blue lights? that way i can see if he is bleached or not but it looks really good from your pics. Also i have never had a nem roam at night but i dont see why it would be abnormal. he may just be staying put during the day so he can capture as much light as possible and at night when there is no light to get he goes on the move ya know. the second pic where he is squeezed in the rock is more than likely where he wants to be. BTA love to get their foot wedged deep in to crevis of a rock or in between several. If his mouth is closed nice and tight i think, you have nothing to worry about. You have had him for about 3 days now correct? mayeb you should try feeding him and see if he eats. if his tentacles grab the food you will know that they are sticky whiuch is a great sign and if he rsponds to you feeding him thats another great sign . keep me posted and good luck

Thank you so much for all your help greg1786. I run the lights for 12 hrs each day. I tried feeding him again tonight and he does hold the food but he seems to release it after a 10 minutes or so. I cant tell if it is ingesting any of the food or not. Maybe it does not like the choices I have been offering. I have tried finely chopped krill finely chopped silversides and i'm sure some brine shrimp has made its way to him. I have also been using a turkey baster to deliver the food maybe it does not like that method either because when I squeeze the bulb to deliver the food and the water starts come out he seems to close up a bit. I apologize for these horrible pics. This is the nem tonight. Thanks again greg.

the food and way you deliver it is good. I feed mine marine cuisine which is a mixture of brine n mysis. the releasing food is normal as they will only eat what they want and let the rest go mine does the same. when he catches the food does he fold his tentacles into his mouth? maybe you can take a video and email me next time you feed. also I meant to ask what bulbs do you run in your fixture? I cant get over how he moves around at night only. I think you really have nothing to worry about he will eventually settle in. but make sure in the meantime you keep a close watch. do you have clowns in your tank? if so have they hosted the nem? keep me posted and as always goodluck. and your welcome just happy to be able to help I know how worrysome it can be when keeping a nem for first time it drove me crazy every little thing he did I was worried lol
