Help with my loud solana

I just picked up a used solana 34 from a fellow reefer and it seems really loud. it has a waterfall sound and it is in my livingroom so it is really getting old...and suggestions?

the system is stock, with stock skimmer and ATO. i am sure there are mods to help quiet this down

Have you located where the sound is coming from?

Not very familiar with a Solana, but it sounds like your water level might be low which will cause a waterfall like sound and the less water you have in that overflow area the higher the noise of the waterfall sound is.

How often do you top up the tank? and with how much? For example, I have to top up every day about two cups or a total of 2-3g per week in my 34g enclosed cube with the back trap and feeding trap open.

i made the water level higher and it seemed to help. but from what i can tell the water level should be ran a bit lower in order for the little ATO bottles to work. and suggestions?

The sponge is probably missing from the overflow. It sits right behind the slots where the water goes in.

There was a recent thread that talked about putting some egg crate inthe overflow to support a sponge. It works like a champ.

yeah, there is no sponge in there. guess ill have to find one to retrofit

In Tank media sells a hanger and sponge. Did a great job of quieting mine.

I've ordered from them also. They have a bunch of Solana specific items that'll help with your tank.

Just wedge a cocktail stick through a sponge. Another approach is to cut up a sandwich bag and tape that into the channel.
