Help with new 125 gallon build

Here is a video i took yesterday of my tank. I added a couple of more pieces of LR and re-arranged the aqua scape a bit on the left side, i think it looks much better now.

Blue tang seems to be doing ok although it is very shy. It hides a lot. When i initially put him in, he swam around a lot and also ate with the others but yesterday did not. I put some sea weed on a clip and i think he did take a few bites although i did not see him do it. Maybe was afraid from the new rock i put in and the changes i made.
 
Everything looks active and healthy in your tank! It is good to see the clowns swimming out in the middle of the tank. Don't be surprised they will find a corner of the tank and call it home and stay near that corner most of the times.

The Blue Tang is an active fish during the day but will hide and sleep when the tank gets dark and loses some color. If I put a sheet of seaweed in my tank, it won't last 30 second.

Anytime you change the enviroment of the tank, some fish would get completely discoriented but they will adjust.

Simon, the blue tang doesn't seem like he wants to eat with the rest of the fish during feeding time. Is it because he's new? I had a sheet of sea weed in there almost all day today and he hasn't touched it, but i do see him pecking away at the GHA on the rocks. He did eat a little yesterday and the day i got him, but not today. Should I be worried?
 
Is he active or hide all the times? If active I won't worry too much. Is he interested in frozen food? May be try some.
 
He's active when I'm not standing in front of the tank. He did eat some frozen food yesterday. I guess he's ok, I'm just curious as to why he won't touch the sea weed on the clip.

Ok, this is starting to scare my a little but i think my blue tang has ICH. I'm not positive but it seems i can spot the most tiniest white spot on one of his sides. How can I know for sure? He swims around during the day but he still does not eat like the others do. When its feeding time, all the others know it and they wait for the food and attack it when it comes. The tang does the opposite, he goes and hides. If i manually sprinkle some food on his side, he comes out and grabs a few bites and thats it. Put another piece of sea weed yesterday but hardly touched it if at all...i think the foxface did more so. I already started preparing to get my QT ready....
 
I was out of town all week last week. How is your blue tang doing? Is the ICH getting worse and spreading to other fish or improving?
 
Hi Simon, so far so good and i'm keeping my fingers crossed. It may have been that I miss diagnosed but I no longer see anything on him at all. He seems to act ok but he is still shy when it comes to go eat with the rest of the crew. Is that normal? Of course i could be wrong and its at the stage where the ich falls off the fish and may start to reporduce in the tank but i'm hopping that's not the case. I got my QT up and running and i added a permanent resident in there yesterday, a small cardinal fish. I had filter media sitting in my sump for 10 days or so and used some of my DT water also to get it going. I also added a product called Cycle to help with it. So far no ammonia or nitrite or nitrate showing up. Hopefully it stays that way when i will start feeding him today.
 
The UV sterilzer should help keep the ick in check and break up their cycle. Another option may be helpful is to add a cleaner shrimp which acts like a cleaning station for fish with parasites.

I actually did add cleaner shrimp on Saturday. Again, i'm hoping to be wrong and there is no ick. Not playing the Russian roulette anymore though, any new fish is going into the QT first. How did your blue hippo act when you first got him?
 
I got my blue tang when it was only about 1" long. Didn't think it was going to make it as it turned pale and rolled over the first night. It turned out it was its normal behavior. It did get some ich after I transferred it to the 125g. I think he picked that up from the 3 new chromis that I got from LFS. I fed it garlic soaked seaweed for several days, got a cleaner shrimp and installed a UV sterilizer and the ich never came back.

Did you get the Algae mower? How do you like it. I actually bought one from Amazon after you mentioned it. It worked pretty well and I got rid of most visible GHA but it did take some time and frequent cleaning as it binds a lot especially if the GHA is thick.

My blue tang seems to be fine for the moment, i dont see anything on it at all and it is very active during the day. It does it frozen food i give it and some of the pellet food but wont touch any sea weed. Maybe he is content in picking at the algae in the tank because he is doing that constantly and cleaning things up I might add. I do see it from time to time trying to scratch itself on the rocks but only a few times. He is definitely breathing normally though. I guess will just play by ear and monitor him.

Sorry for not getting back on the algae mower vac....yes i did receive it but it was below my expectations and did not do a good job at all in my tank. The GHA i have is very short and it just doesn't pull it off. When I tried to pull some of it off the sand bed, the unit would just immediately get jammed and i would have to open it up each time to un-jam, very annoying. I contacted the creator of the unit and worked out a 50% refund on the unit as i could use it for small tasks like vacuming out my QT tank of debris and doing water changes on it, so it does have minimal use for me. But it sounds like it worked fine for you.
 
I'm happy to report though that all the rock that I replaced on the left side of the tank that had all that GHA is perfect and no new GHA has grown on the new live rock at all. This proves that its the rock i had that was leaching the phosphates.
 
Way to go about getting a 50% refund on the Algae mower! I knew from the reviews that it will jam easily so I never put it close to the sandbed. My GHA in my 92g tank is pretty long so the AM pulls them out quite easily but it still binds frequently. I wish there is a better tool out there but in the mean time there is simply nothing like it on the market. It does the job but not without frustration.
 
Simon, whats the best way to figure out daily dosing requirements to keep things stable for CA and ALK? Also my MAG is over 1500 i believe (my salifert test kit only goes to 1500). Having trouble figuring out the right amount of CA i need daily...last dose i did was about 57ml per day but that took me from a reading of about 410 to 469. i turned off the dosing last night to give it a breather.
 
Every tank is different because demand of alk and Ca varies with types of corals in the tank. So it is basically a trial and error type estimation. 469 is too high for calcium and they will start to precipitate out.

I set my dosing regimen to run 9 min every hour and repeat 12 times a day. You can play with either the dosing period or dosing frequency to get the level that you want. Try to aim at alk around 8-9 and Ca around 400-425. There is no ideal level, just acceptable range.
 
I noticed yesterday the blue tang is antsy and scracthing itself several times on rocks, also making a lot of trips to the "cleaning station" where the shrimp is hidding. But i still dont see any visible signs of ICK. could it just be other parasites bothering it?

I noticed this in my fuge where my dosing tubes drip in, i think it's from the ALK additive:



It disolves if i shake it up in there...is this normal?
