Help with new clown pairing and two other fish in QT

My larger female clown died last week. I just got my 3rd and 4th fish a couple days before the clown died. They are in qt for 4 weeks plus.

I would like to get a new smaller juvenile clown to pair with my surviving clown in the next couple days. I just don't know the right way to introduce him.

Should I take out the surviving clown and out him in qt with the new clown?

Four fish in my 10 gallon qt would prob be too tight right?

what's my best option? I also don't want to keep the new clown I get by himself for 4 weeks bc I'm afraid it will turn into a female and then I will have two females.

One thing you can do is QT them together. It would help them to in the long run.

How large a tank are you going to put them in?

My display tank is 46 gallons. I have had the one surviving clown for 3 months. He is only 1.5" but everyone seems to think since he is by himself now he is changing into a female.

It will take more than a week to make the change. Along with environmental influences. I would combine now, personally, to let them pick and choose.

i thought the same thing, i wanted to get a bigger female 2" plus, b/c i read it would take place at the earliest 3 weeks,

but snorvich and others on here told me that it was already too late and that the changes have started, and it was a big risk to get a female. so i needed to get a small juvenielle that has no sex yet.

so if i do get now and combine them, i plan to do so in a QT.. that would mean taking out my surviving clown and putting him in a QT.

can the two clowns fit with my royal gramma and pj cardinal?

That would be a bit tight in that QT.

Assuming it's a percula or ocellaris I would say that at 1.5'' (total length) he is likely still an asexual male. If it is any of the other Amphiprion species he is for sure still an asexual male.
They may start at that size to hack out who is who but nothing is settled.

So your options are open to add a larger or a smaller.

Only if it is a Premnas it is almost for sure a functional male and I would add the largest female I could find to make a pair. I mean 3 to 4 times larger than the male so he is too intimidated to try anything funny. I was breeding them and these idiots start fighting to the death at a size of only 1 cm. So you either need to put them all separate or only one will be left in the end.

I think im not gonna take any chances and get the juvenielle and smaller fish.

the main question is what do I do with new fish, my 2 fish in QT and my 1 clown in DT. should i be taking out my healthy fish and putting him in QT with new fish? (doesnt have half way defeat the purpose of a QT).

is it best to get a 2nd QT and put the clowns in there my existing clown is only exposed to one other fish? or a bigger QT and put all 4 in?

i was thinking on holding off for 3 weeks until PJ cardinal and royal gramma are put in the DT. and then i will get my new juvinelle clown.

should I put him in QT by himself for 4 weeks and then just add him to my DT with other clown and 2 fish, or should i pull the clown i have out of the DT and place him with the new clown in QT? so they have time to themselves.

I think before adding new fish to DT you need to consider what caused the other clown to die. Was it a disease of some sort or was she a jumper?
If it was due to some sort of disease then you would want to take your remaining clown out of the DT and treat in QT. A positive ID of the cause of death is important. Otherwise any fish added to the tank will be at risk.

I would wait until all existing fish are treated before adding back to DT.

both fish were in qt for 6 weeks before DT, and were in DT healthy and happy for 6 weeks or more.

i had added CUC that day, im thinking maybe she got spoked by the big scarlet hermit crab i got. or had a bad dream and just went nuts and jumped.

i dont see any signs of disease at all.
