Help with new setup- phosphate

I've got a tank with old live rock that has been sitting for 6 months, with no inhabitants. I tested the water and the phosphate is 1.41 on a Hanna low range phosphate meter. Yes, 1.41 not .141-------I did a couple test and both were same. Then I tested some ro/di water to make sure the reagent was good. The test came out 0. So, it's legit.

Now I'm in the middle of starting up an LPS/SPS tank. I'm wondering if I can use this live rock. Do you guys think i could pull all that phosphate out of that LR with phosphate remover/skimming/Algal Turf Scrubber Or should I dump this 5yr old live rock and start new?

It's 100 ish lbs so it's a lot of money that I could use on a skimmer or whatever. I'm not sure what to do but I don't want to waste time and $ if it's a lost cause.

Any advice people? Thanks for your support.

I would say 2.0 is pushing it for corals. This video may help. As for your rock, if it were me, I would put the rock in a trashcan with saltwater, pump, and a reactor full of GFO and clean some of it out. I would use it once it reached the .5 area, others wouldn't touch it unless it was down below .03, and some would use it at 1.4, so answers will cover the entire range and all of them will be right.

Removing that much phosphate with gfo will get real expensive real fast. I would get some 10 micron filter socks and some lanthanum chloride. Drip it into the filter socks and it will bring your phosphates down fast and a little goes a long way. Without any inhabitants there isn't much risk
