Help with positioning tunzes in my 180

Hi Roger

I have a 180 bare bottom... its going to be mostly sps tank.

I have 3x6100 and 2x6200 (yes I plan on buying tunze stock one day lol). The 3x 6100s are along the bottom and the 2 x 6200 are at opposite sides of the tank on top.

I also have 2 spray bars on either side of my overflow feeding of my closed loop.

I am currently using interval one, I think at about 25 secs apart.the middle 6100 on the bottom is continuously at 100% as I cant find a branch adapter yet. The 6100 and 6200 on left side turn on while the 6100 and 6200 are off, and then vice versa.

I have them at 70% and 100%, I know the bigger the difference the better the wave motion but right now I am curing some rock so I want as much flow as possible.

Is there any other way you would recommend positioning them? Different program?

I am getting a whirlpool effect at the top near the 6200s and so sometimes it sucks in air and spits out microbubbles.any way of preventing this?

thanks

Marine Depot should have the branch adapters. If not, any dealer should be able to get it for you as I have a few in stock here.

I might suggest Interval 2 and a much longer interval, the pumps last longer between cleaning this way and you should get more flow.

You need to lower the 6200's.

Roger, just curious, what is the theory on longer intervals keeping the pumps running longer between cleanings? I'm going to lengthen the intervals on mine when I get home tonight - the less maintenance required, the better!
thanks, Mike

Mike, also, do you have the intake guard positioned so that the solid plastic is nearest the surface and the grooves are positioned toward the sides and bottom?

It is more a matter of not having them off, if you use Interval 2 the pumps never turn off and always have water flowing through them, they run cooler and less calcium precipitates inside. The long intervals are simply because that is a more natural interval, the tide changes every 6 hrs.

Thanks Roger

Ok, so interval 2,you say much longer intervals, how much longer?

Also, which channels would you run the pumps off, remember I have 3x6100 along the bottom and 2 x 6200 on top on either side of the tank.

It really depends on a lot of water chemistry variables but I think it will generally extend the service life about 2-6 weeks over Interval 1. I would use every socket you have, 1 channel will idle and one will pulse and then they switch at the set interval.
