I had this thread on the Equipment page but did not get a response. Maybe someone here can help.

thanks,

Hello all,
The sedra pump that runs my euro reef skimmer locks up once in a while. I've had it for about 4 years and this has started happening as of a few months ago. I soak it in vinager so there is no lime buildup left. I'll put it back and it works for a few days then it quits.

Outside of the tank, when I run it without the intake cover it seems to work all the time. The problem is when I put the cover on. It's like there's restriction somewhere but everything is very clean with no buildup.

Any ideas, is it time to replace the pump?.

thanks,
Albert

Contact Sedra- not sure about there customer service, but they should take care of the problem if the pump is only 4 months old. It shouldn't be doing that...

4 yrs, no problems? Thats good to hear :) Bushings could need replacement.. Housing also could be worn.. if you got 4 yrs... Hey, buy another pump!

I'm having the exact same problem. Did Euroreef do anything to modify the PUMP itself, or just the impeller? I ask because the replacement pump on Euroreef.com is expensive! Mine was purchased in Aug 2001, so I guess I've had good use!

I agree is the impellor magnet in poor shape ? if its not a nice glossy black its time for a new one. One of my ER was like that and then I replace the needle wheel and it was back to normal.

Everything looks to be ok. Impeller magnet ok, the needle wheel does'nt seem out of round.

It does work all the time when you take the cover off. Can it be the o ring?. I don't mind buying another impeller if it's going to work.

thanks for your responses,
Albert
