TBRC need help

I have a 56 gallon Freshwater planted tank with 3 8" discus and 7 neon tetras, shrimps and otto cats. I have had this tank for over 3 years without any issues. Today I got a call from my daughter that all the fish were trying to jump out of tank and moving fast and in circles. 30 minutes later when I got home I find only 1 neon swimming crazy. All others turned pale and died. I have never seen anything like this and want to make sure that this does not happen to my 210 gallon reef. All was well this morning when I left to work. Any suggestions as to what could cause such a rapid decline? I checked parameters and all levels are good. I did a WC about two weeks ago. I use Seachem matrix and phosban in a Rena canister filter that is rated upto 175 gallon. I was worried what caused this might be air born like Carbon monoxide / gas leak but my two alarms would have gone off. On my reef tank I have GFO reactor filled with Carbon.

Any help finding out what could have caused this and prevent this from happening to my reef would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,
Z

Thanks Pedro. Not that I am aware off. Family knows not to use sprays and cleaning products around tanks. Good point I will as when I get home again.

Installman,

I do not use CO2 and don't use airpumps. I rarely ever add ferts. Although I am sad for my lose I am really worried about the reef. Going to change carbon when I get home and add fresh carbon.

Thx

CichlidMan@<3, No algea blooms. After hours of watching reef tank nothing seems to be effected. I drained fresh water tank and did a 50% water change. The two surviving fish seem to have stopped swiming crazy. I still have not added carbon to filter.

Did any of your water circulation or air pumps stop working on the FW tank?

Have you added any fish recently?

That is really bizarre, sorry about the fish man.

Could a sulphur pocket in the substrate have been disturbed?
There's only a few things that could take a tank down so quickly - no/low oxygen, chemical contamination and maybe electricity. Check the heater for moisture inside if it's a submersible.
